Description:
Ceclor 15 mL Paediatric Oral Drops contain Cefaclor, a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections in children. It is especially effective against respiratory tract infections, ear infections, skin infections, and urinary tract infections. The formulation is designed for infants and young children, offering accurate dosing and easy administration through a dropper.
Indications:
- Acute otitis media (ear infections)
- Upper respiratory tract infections (e.g., pharyngitis, tonsillitis)
- Lower respiratory tract infections (e.g., bronchitis)
- Urinary tract infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections
Mechanism of Action:
Cefaclor works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. It is bactericidal against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, and Staphylococcus aureus.
Dosage and Administration:
- Dosage is based on the child’s weight, age, and the type/severity of infection
- Typically administered every 8 hours, as prescribed by a pediatrician
- Shake well before use
- Use the dropper for precise dosing
- Can be taken with or without food, but preferably with food to reduce stomach upset
Storage:
Store below 25°C. Once reconstituted, refrigerate and use within 14 days. Discard any unused portion after that. Keep out of reach of children.
Warnings and Precautions:
- Not effective against viral infections (e.g., colds, flu)
- Use with caution in children with a history of penicillin allergy (possible cross-reactivity)
- Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi
