Description
Product Overview:
CIMET 400 mg Tablet contains Cimetidine, a histamine H2-receptor antagonist that reduces stomach acid production. It is used to treat and manage a range of gastrointestinal conditions caused or worsened by excess acid. Cimetidine works by blocking H2 receptors on the gastric parietal cells, thereby decreasing the volume and concentration of stomach acid. This action promotes healing of ulcers and relieves symptoms such as heartburn and indigestion.
Therapeutic Class:
H2-receptor antagonist (H2 blocker)
Active Ingredient:
Cimetidine 400 mg
Indications:
- Duodenal and gastric ulcers: For short-term treatment and maintenance to promote healing and prevent recurrence.
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD): Relief of symptoms such as heartburn and acid regurgitation.
- Zollinger-Ellison syndrome: Control of excessive acid secretion.
- Acid indigestion and heartburn: Temporary relief of symptoms associated with hyperacidity.
- Prevention of stress ulcers in critically ill patients (hospital use).
Mechanism of Action:
Cimetidine competitively inhibits the action of histamine at H2 receptors of the gastric parietal cells, thereby reducing both basal and stimulated gastric acid secretion. It decreases the amount of acid in the stomach, providing relief and allowing healing of ulcers and irritation.
