Description
Pioglitazone is an oral medication used to treat type 2 diabetes in adults and children aged 10 and older. It belongs to a class of drugs called thiazolidinediones that work by increasing the body’s sensitivity to insulin. Insulin is a natural hormone that helps control blood sugar levels and when pioglitazone is taken, it works by binding to specific receptors called peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-γ).
