Description
Composition:
Each film-coated tablet contains
- Pioglitazone Hydrochloride 15 mg
- Metformin Hydrochloride 500 mg
Description:
Poze Met is a combination oral antidiabetic medication used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus. It contains Pioglitazone, a thiazolidinedione that improves insulin sensitivity, and Metformin, a biguanide that decreases hepatic glucose production and improves peripheral glucose uptake. Together, these agents provide complementary mechanisms to help control blood sugar levels effectively.
Indications:
- Management of type 2 diabetes mellitus when diet, exercise, and monotherapy with either metformin or pioglitazone alone do not result in adequate glycemic control.
- Suitable for patients requiring dual therapy to improve blood glucose regulation.
Dosage and Administration:
The usual recommended dose is one tablet twice daily, taken with meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects. Dose adjustments may be needed based on patient response and tolerability, under physician supervision.
Mechanism of Action:
- Pioglitazone: Enhances insulin sensitivity in muscle and adipose tissue, reducing insulin resistance.
- Metformin: Suppresses hepatic gluconeogenesis and increases insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues.
Warnings and Precautions:
- Use with caution in patients with heart failure or risk of fluid retention.
- Monitor renal and hepatic function periodically.
- Not recommended for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
- Gastrointestinal discomfort and lactic acidosis are rare but serious side effects of metformin.
- Avoid excessive alcohol intake during treatment.
Side Effects:
Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, and mild fluid retention. Severe adverse effects are rare but require immediate medical attention.
Storage:
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
