Product Name: Urso Capsules 250 mg
Dosage Form: Oral Capsule
Strength: 250 mg
Active Ingredient: Ursodeoxycholic Acid (UDCA)
Route of Administration: Oral
Description:
Urso Capsules contain Ursodeoxycholic Acid (UDCA), a bile acid used primarily to treat liver and gallbladder-related conditions. UDCA works by reducing cholesterol absorption and dissolving cholesterol-rich gallstones. It also protects liver cells from toxic bile acids and improves bile flow, making it effective in managing chronic liver diseases such as primary biliary cholangitis and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
Indications:
- Dissolution of cholesterol gallstones in patients who are not candidates for surgery
- Primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) treatment
- Cholestatic liver diseases
- Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) adjunct therapy
- Prevention of liver damage in patients receiving total parenteral nutrition (TPN)
Mechanism of Action:
Ursodeoxycholic Acid decreases the cholesterol saturation of bile by reducing hepatic cholesterol secretion and increasing bile acid secretion, which helps dissolve cholesterol gallstones. It also protects hepatocytes against toxic bile acids and reduces inflammation and fibrosis in the liver.

- Typically taken orally once or twice daily, as prescribed by the physician
- Capsules should be swallowed whole with water, preferably with food to reduce gastrointestinal discomfort
