Description:
Urso 500 mg Capsules contain Ursodeoxycholic Acid, a naturally occurring bile acid used for treating cholestatic liver diseases and cholesterol-rich gallstones. UDCA promotes bile flow, reduces the liver’s cholesterol saturation, and protects liver cells from the toxic effects of bile acids. It’s commonly prescribed for conditions like primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), primary sclerosing cholangitis, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

This higher-strength formulation (500 mg) is particularly beneficial for patients requiring higher daily doses in fewer pills, improving compliance.

Indications:

  • Dissolution of cholesterol gallstones (in non-calcified, functioning gallbladders)
  • Primary biliary cholangitis (PBC)
  • Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC)
  • Intrahepatic cholestasis
  • Liver function support in NAFLD or NASH
  • Prevention of gallstones in rapid weight loss or TPN therapy

Mechanism of Action:
UDCA works by:

  • Reducing hepatic cholesterol secretion
  • Displacing toxic bile acids with non-toxic forms
  • Enhancing bile acid-dependent bile flow
  • Exhibiting cytoprotective and anti-apoptotic effects on liver cells

  • Swallow capsules whole with water
  • Duration depends on indication and treatment response
