Description
Indications
VALSATRIL is indicated for the treatment of heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death and hospitalization for heart failure. It is typically used in combination with other heart failure therapies, such as beta-blockers and diuretics.
Dosage and Administration
- The recommended starting dose is 24 mg sacubitril / 26 mg valsartan twice daily.
- Dosing may be adjusted based on individual patient tolerability and response.
- Tablets should be swallowed whole with a glass of water, preferably at the same time each day.
Contraindications
VALSATRIL should not be used in patients with:
- A history of angioedema related to previous ACE inhibitor or ARB therapy.
- Concomitant use of an ACE inhibitor or aliskiren in patients with diabetes.
- Severe hepatic impairment.
- Pregnancy and lactation due to potential fetal and neonatal harm.
Warnings and Precautions
- Monitor for signs and symptoms of angioedema and hypotension.
- Regular monitoring of renal function and serum potassium is recommended.
- Use caution in patients with volume depletion, hyponatremia, or those receiving potassium-sparing diuretics.
- Discontinue use if hyperkalemia (elevated potassium levels) occurs.
Adverse Reactions
Common adverse reactions include:
- Hypotension
- Hyperkalemia
- Cough
- Dizziness
- Renal failure
Serious adverse reactions may include angioedema and renal impairment.
Drug Interactions
- Avoid concomitant use with ACE inhibitors and aliskiren in patients with diabetes.
- Use caution when coadministering with potassium-sparing diuretics, NSAIDs, and lithium due to potential interactions.
Storage
Store at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Keep out of reach of children.
