Pseudoephedrine belongs to a group of medicines called sympathomimetic decongestants. It works by reducing congestion in the upper respiratory tract, including the nose, nasal passages and sinuses, and making it easier to breathe. Paracetamol works to stop the pain messages from getting through to the brain. It also acts in the brain to reduce fever. Triprolidine belongs to a group of medicines called ‘antihistamines’. Antihistamines help reduce allergic symptoms by preventing the effects of a substance called histamine. Histamine is produced by the body in response to foreign substances that the body is allergic to.

Dosage 

 Paracetamol , Triprolidine , Pseudoephedrine HCl 

Side Effects 

Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people) : Difficulty sleeping, nervousness, dizziness or feeling jittery , Drowsiness , Blurred vision , Thickened mucus, dry mouth, nausea or an upset stomach Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1000 people) : Confusion or depression , Tremor, shakiness or slurred speech , Low blood pressure Other effects which may occur but it is not known how often : Stroke , Heart attack/reduced blood flow to the heart which can cause discomfort or pain in the chest, neck, back, jaw, shoulders or arms (known as angina). Agitation, anxiety, irritability or feelings of extreme happiness . 

Drug Interactions 

Sedatives , Hypnotics , bupropion , Tricyclic antidepressants , Sympathomimetic drugs , atropine , guanethidine, methyldopa, adrenergic neurone blockers, debrisoquine, bretylium and betanidine , Moclobemide , Cardiac glycosides , Ergot alkaloids ,Oxytocin , haloperidol, thioridazine, perphenazine , amiodarone, propafenone, quinidine and flecainide , terbinafine , Antihistamines . 

Indication 

It is used to give relief of severe sinus pain and congestion, nasal congestion, headache and pain, allergic symptoms such as sneezing, itching and watery eyes. 

When not to Use 

Do not take if you have an allergy to: • Any medicine containing pseudoephedrine • Any medicine containing paracetamol • Any medicine containing triprolidine or other antihistamines. 

Actifed-P Cold Precautions 

Precaution 

Do not take a double dose to make up for the dose that you missed. This may increase the chance of you getting an unwanted side effect. 

Actifed-P Cold Warnings 

Warning 1 

Do not take this medicine if you have very high blood pressure. 

Warning 2 

Do not take this medicine if you are also taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (a type of medicine used to treat depression), or if you have taken monoamine oxidase inhibitors in the last 14 days. 

Warning 3 

Do not take this medicine if you have severe coronary artery disease (heart disease caused by poor blood flow or narrowing of the blood vessels of the heart).
