Description

Algocin 250 mg contains Ciprofloxacin, a broad-spectrum antibiotic from the fluoroquinolone class. It is used to treat a wide variety of mild to moderate bacterial infections by inhibiting the enzymes bacteria need to multiply and repair, leading to their elimination.

Indications

Algocin 250 mg is prescribed for the treatment of bacterial infections such as:

Dosage and Administration

• Standard adult dose: 250 mg every 12 hours, or as directed by a physician depending on the type and severity of infection.
• Take orally with a full glass of water. Can be taken with or without food.
• Do not take with dairy products, antacids, or supplements containing calcium, magnesium, iron, or zinc within 2 hours of the dose.
• Complete the prescribed course to avoid antibiotic resistance.

Mechanism of Action

Ciprofloxacin works by blocking bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, essential enzymes for bacterial replication and repair. This stops bacterial growth and leads to infection resolution.

Precautions

• Not usually recommended for children or adolescents.
• Use with caution in elderly patients and those with kidney disorders.
• Avoid exposure to direct sunlight; may cause photosensitivity.
• Monitor for signs of tendon pain or inflammation.
