Description
This drug (fexofenadine) is a Histamine 1 antagonist (antihistamine) Second Generation; Piperidine Derivative antiallergic drug. The H1 histamine receptor is responsible for mediating hypersensitivity and allergic reactions. After an exposure to an allergen the degranulation of mast cells and basophils occurs, which then release histamine and other inflammatory mediators. Histamine binds to, and activates, H1 receptors, which further releases pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as interleukins, from basophils and mast cells.
