Description
Description
Acarbose is an alpha-glucosidase inhibitor, which helps to control blood sugar levels by delaying the digestion and absorption of carbohydrates (complex sugars). It is sometimes prescribed for patients newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, or those who have tried other medications without success.
Ingredients
Acarbose 50mg
Drug Class
Anti-diabetic
Dosage Form
Tablet
Uses
Acarbose is utilized for the following therapeutic indications:
Management of type 2 diabetes
Delaying carbohydrate absorption to control postprandial blood glucose levels
Improving glycemic control in diabetic patients
Aiding in the reduction of insulin resistance
Supporting overall metabolic health in individuals with diabetes
Helping prevent complications associated with diabetes management
Dosage
To be used as per doctor’s advice
In case of Overdose
An overdose of acarbose would generally occur if a patient took more than the prescribed dosage of the medication. Severe hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) may also occur, particularly if acarbose is taken with other medications that can lower blood sugar, such as insulin or sulfonylureas. If you suspect that you or someone else has taken an overdose of acarbose, it is important to seek medical attention immediately. Treatment may involve gastrointestinal decontamination, such as inducing vomiting or taking tablets to absorb the overdose, as well monitoring and management of blood sugar levels.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose of Acarbose 50mg, take the missed dose as soon as possible, unless it is closer in time to your next scheduled dose. In this case, skip the missed dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. Do not double up on doses to make up for the missed dose. It is important to take Acarbose 50mg as directed by your healthcare provider. If you have any questions about your medication or how to take it, be sure to ask your doctor or pharmacist for guidance.

When Not to Use
Do not use in case of:
When a patient is hypersensitive to Acarbose or any of the other ingredients in the medication
Patients with diabetes should not take Acarbose 50mg unless they are also taking a sugar•lowering drug, because Acarbose can increase the risk of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) when used with other sugar•lowering medications.
It should not be used in patients with impaired kidney function, as Acarbose is excreted by the kidneys and excessive accumulation can occur.
