Side Effects 

Common (affects less than 1 in 10 people) : Problems in passing water (urinary retention) , blurred vision , dry mouth , constipation. Uncommon (affects less than 1 in 100 people) : Feeling sick (nausea) or being sick (vomiting) , inflamed gums (gingivitis) , dizziness, nervousness, feeling confused, not knowing where you are (feeling disoriented), reduced concentration or memory, hearing unexpected noises or seeing unexpected sights (hallucinations), anxiety, agitation (feeling irritable) , skin rash. 

Drug Interactions 

Levodopa , amantadine , disopyramide, quinidine and nitrate tablets , cisapride, domperidone and metoclopramide , antihistamines , nefopam, ketoconazole , paroxetine. 

Indication 

It is used to treat and relieve the signs of Parkinson’s disease . 

When not to Use 

Do not take if: You are allergic (hypersensitive) to procyclidine or any of the other ingredients ; You have problems in passing water (urinary retention) ; You suffer from a problem caused by too much pressure in your eye called ‘closed angle glaucoma’ ; You have stomach cramps and pains or constipation.

It should not be withdrawn abruptly as rebound parkinsonian symptoms may occur. 

Kempro Tablets Warnings 

Warning 1 

As with all anticholinergics the benefit/risk ratio should be assessed when prescribing in patients with existing angle-closure (narrow angle) glaucoma or those considered to be predisposed to glaucoma. Cautious prescribing is also indicated in patients predisposed to obstructive disease of the gastro-intestinal tract and those with urinary symptoms associated with prostatic hypertrophy. 

Warning 2 

Patients with rare hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, the Lapp lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not take this medicine. 

Warning 3 

Procyclidine along with other anticholinergic drugs, has the potential to be abused. Although the cases of abuse are rare, physicians should exercise caution in prescribing procyclidine to patients with symptoms that may not be genuine.
