Description
Composition:
Each tablet contains:
- Meloxicam 7.5 mg
Description:
Melfax 7.5 mg is a prescription non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) containing meloxicam, used to treat mild to moderate pain and inflammation in various musculoskeletal and joint disorders. It is commonly prescribed for conditions like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis. Meloxicam works by selectively inhibiting the COX-2 enzyme, reducing the production of prostaglandins that cause pain, inflammation, and swelling.
Indications:
- Relief of pain and inflammation in osteoarthritis
- Management of rheumatoid arthritis
- Treatment of ankylosing spondylitis
- General musculoskeletal pain and stiffness
Dosage and Administration:
The typical adult dose is 7.5 mg once daily, taken preferably after meals to reduce gastric irritation. Depending on the severity of the condition and patient response, the dose may be adjusted by a healthcare provider.
Mechanism of Action:
Meloxicam selectively inhibits cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) over COX-1, helping to reduce inflammation and pain with fewer gastrointestinal side effects compared to traditional NSAIDs.
Warnings and Precautions:
- Use with caution in patients with a history of gastrointestinal ulcers, kidney or liver problems, or cardiovascular disease
- May increase the risk of heart attack or stroke with long-term use
- Avoid use in the third trimester of pregnancy
- Do not take with other NSAIDs or blood thinners unless advised by a doctor
Side Effects:
Common side effects may include stomach upset, nausea, dizziness, and headache. Rare but serious side effects can include gastrointestinal bleeding, liver enzyme changes, and allergic reactions.
Storage:
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.
