Description
Metronidazole is an antibiotic and antiprotozoal agent that disrupts DNA synthesis in anaerobic bacteria and protozoa. By causing strand breakage and inhibiting nucleic acid synthesis, it leads to cell death and is effective in treating infections caused by these organisms.

Metrogel (topical metronidazole) is also used to treat rosacea, a skin condition. Vaginal metronidazole gel is also used to treat bacterial infections of the vagina
