Description:
Tarka is a combination antihypertensive medication containing Trandolapril, an ACE inhibitor, and Verapamil hydrochloride, a calcium channel blocker (extended-release). It is used for the management of high blood pressure (hypertension), offering dual-action control by reducing vascular resistance and decreasing heart workload.

Active Ingredients:

  • Trandolapril 2 mg: Inhibits angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), reducing the formation of angiotensin II, leading to vasodilation and reduced blood pressure.
  • Verapamil HCl 180 mg (extended-release): A calcium channel blocker that relaxes the heart and blood vessels, improving blood flow and lowering blood pressure.

Indications:

  • Treatment of essential hypertension
  • May be used in patients who require both ACE inhibition and calcium channel blockade

Mechanism of Action:

  • Trandolapril: Lowers blood pressure by preventing the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor.
  • Verapamil (ER): Inhibits calcium influx into cardiac and vascular smooth muscle, reducing myocardial contractility and vascular resistance.

Dosage and Administration:

  • Taken orally once daily or as prescribed
  • Should be swallowed whole; do not crush or chew
  • Dose adjustments may be needed based on response and tolerability

Storage:
Store at room temperature (15–30°C). Keep in original packaging, away from moisture and light.

Warnings and Precautions:

  • Not recommended during pregnancy (especially second and third trimesters)
  • Use with caution in patients with liver or kidney impairment
  • May cause dizziness, hypotension, or bradycardia
  • Monitor blood pressure, renal function, and electrolytes regularly
  • Avoid combining with potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics unless under supervision
