Description:
Tarka is a combination antihypertensive medication containing Trandolapril, an ACE inhibitor, and Verapamil hydrochloride, a calcium channel blocker (extended-release). It is used for the management of high blood pressure (hypertension), offering dual-action control by reducing vascular resistance and decreasing heart workload.
Active Ingredients:
- Trandolapril 2 mg: Inhibits angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE), reducing the formation of angiotensin II, leading to vasodilation and reduced blood pressure.
- Verapamil HCl 180 mg (extended-release): A calcium channel blocker that relaxes the heart and blood vessels, improving blood flow and lowering blood pressure.
Indications:
- Treatment of essential hypertension
- May be used in patients who require both ACE inhibition and calcium channel blockade
Mechanism of Action:
- Trandolapril: Lowers blood pressure by preventing the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor.
- Verapamil (ER): Inhibits calcium influx into cardiac and vascular smooth muscle, reducing myocardial contractility and vascular resistance.
Dosage and Administration:
- Taken orally once daily or as prescribed
- Should be swallowed whole; do not crush or chew
- Dose adjustments may be needed based on response and tolerability
Storage:
